Music Ministry

He has given me a new song to sing. ~~ Psalm 40:3

Christmas Cantata – December 18, 2022

Tranquil is blessed with talented and dedicated musicians. The Chancel Choir provides inspirational music for weekly as well as seasonal services.  At various times, members of the congregation have donated pianos and organ(s) for use in the sanctuary, fellowship hall, & classrooms.  Our choir director serves as our pianist for worship, and our organist plays for church services and accompanies the choir at rehearsals and for special Christmas and Easter music.  Choir members enjoy singing together and have truly become a family.

Our repertoire is mostly traditional using choir anthems, but we also like singing spirituals as well as more contemporary music using The Faith We Sing songbook.  Christmas and Easter give us opportunities to learn cantatas as well as music for the Lenten season.  For congregational singing we use the Methodist hymnal and occasionally our beloved Cokesbury hymnal.

New members are always welcome.  Choir rehearsals are normally held on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Guest soloists are sometimes invited to sing, and our own members are encouraged to offer special music during worship services.  Several of our talented youth occasionally share their musical gifts with us. We end our rehearsals with prayer concerns from choir members.

Our weekly special music can be viewed under Online Worship.

The Handbell Ringers add greatly to our worship on special occasions. We have a three-octave set of handbells in addition to a set of Choir Chimes. New Members are always welcome to join this dedicated group of ringers.
